2023 Policy Address: Supporting Hong Kong SMEs in Digital Transformation
2023 Policy Address: HK Government to Provide 1 Million in Funding to Aid Small and Medium Enterprises in Expanding Their E-commerce Business in China
The 2023 Policy Address for Hong Kong outlines the government’s commitment to establishing an interdepartmental “E-commerce Development Task Force.” This task force is dedicated to facilitating Hong Kong’s small and medium enterprises in expanding their e-commerce operations in mainland China. Initiatives include hosting the “Hong Kong Shopping Festival” on e-commerce platforms to enhance the visibility of Hong Kong brands and broaden the domestic market. Additionally, Cyberport will launch the “Digital Transformation Support Pilot Scheme” by the end of the year to support digital transformation among small and medium enterprises.
Chief Executive Carrie Lam noted that global e-commerce business is rapidly growing. The Commerce and Economic Development Bureau will create the interdepartmental “E-commerce Development Task Force” to implement policies that aid Hong Kong’s small and medium enterprises in expanding their e-commerce business in mainland China. This includes hosting the “Hong Kong Shopping Festival” on e-commerce platforms to raise awareness of Hong Kong brands and expand the domestic market. Under the “Special Fund for Branding, Upgrading, and Domestic Sales,” there is the introduction of “E-commerce Easy,” which allows enterprises to utilize HKD 1 million for e-commerce projects from a cumulative funding limit of HKD 7 million.
Furthermore, the Policy Address also mentions that Cyberport will introduce the “Digital Transformation Support Pilot Scheme” by the end of the year. This scheme will support small and medium enterprises in their digital transformation, providing funding for digital payment and other digital solutions for the retail and catering industries.
